General Info

A Production Service is an item with an attached route (set of tasks) that is submitted to production along with another production item.

The resulting Production Work Order will have one or more tasks associated with it.

Set up a Production Service Item

To set up a production service item, open the Item Master and create a new item. Assign the Production Service attribute (PRODSERVICE) and the Bill of Material attribute (BOM). Also mark the item as "Active," "Resell," and "Produce."

Set up a new Route for the item. This route will contain the standard task, or set of standard tasks, that you want included on the Production Work Order.

Double-click the Bill of Material attribute on your new item. On the Details tab, assign the new route in the RouteID field.

FAQ

Q: Can I automatically associate a Production Service item with another item. In other words, can the SO automatically add the Production Service item once it is added to the SO?

A: This is not currently possible. You must add the item like any other item on the SO.

Q: When I add the Production Service item to the SO and then submit it to production, I get two Production Work Orders instead of one. Why is that?

A: The setup option, SINGLEPWO, is turned on. This setup option does not work with with Production Service items. It is likely that PWOONLYONE needs to be turned on as well.

Q: Can you charge (issue an invoice) for a Production Service Item?

A: Yes, it will act like any other non-stock item on a Sales Order.

Q: What is the production yield of a Production Service item?

A: The yield quantity will match the Sales Order qty. Assembling the Production Service item does not actually make anything (because it is a non-stock item), but it will gather costs associated with the inputs on the Production Work Order and allocate them back to the Sales Order.
