General Info

Adjutant allows users to set up item to be tracked by up to three main units within a single lot controlled item. Variable quantity items can be tracked by Weight, FT (as Catchweight Quantity) and Pieces. This is useful when stocking items that not only need weight and length information, but also piece count per bundle, such as for the pipe or tubing industry. Once set up, an item's lot will carry a weight, footage and piece count per lot.

The catchweight attribute will need to be used for the second unit conversion, either for Length or Weight.

Setup

As indicated by the name, the Variable Quantity can be set up for several different units, selected in the item's attribute. The Setup below will detail the variable quantity tracking pieces. First the attribute needs to be created in the Item Attribute with the Variable Unit Information (VARUNIT) jump screen as the form.

Once set up, you should be able to assign the attribute to an item and fill out the jump screen with the root unit of measure along with the variable quantity unit of measure.

Inventory Management

The major change that you will see in Inventory Management is that the VarQty/Unit columns should be filled out on the 'Lot' and '@' tab of the item. The on hand value and amount will still come from the normal stocking units.

When an item is sold by the variable quantity unit (EA or Pieces in this case), when shipped the amount should decrease the variable quantity in that lot.

Production

Production scanning for variable quantities is done through Prompt 88 for cutting lengths. Detailed instructions can be found here.

Shipping

Variable quantity shipping works best with the manual ship screen. Users can enter in the number of Variable Quantity unit amounts to be shipped.
